I bought a cheap-o Krups burr grinder, and the results were middling until last night, when I BROKE it. Yep, now it’s better.
The grind setting is a simple screw mechanism that moves the top burr closer or farther from the bottom burr, depending on which way you turn it. To remove the top burr, you simply reach into the grinder and grab and turn it further in the “fine” direction to unsnap it.
Well, last night, it would NOT unsnap. As I was pressing on it I was thinking, “this thing’s going to break,” and sure enough, it did. now it turns a full circle, so that the burrs can be set right down on top of each other. That would be bad. BUT. Now, I can grind finer than I could before. The result is excellent coffee.
The bad news: I probably ground and drank the little dude that was the plastic stop mechanism.
The good news: finer grind on that end, and courser grind on the fat end. Both of which were missing the extremes.
I just have to make sure I don’t grind my burrs together.
